Whenever he observes discrimination, he
takes a bold stand. In his many writings and
debates, he cleared many
misunderstandings/misconceptions about the
Ramgarhias.".

S. Surinder Singh Jabal born to
Smt Manjit Kaur Bilkhu on 6th February 1947 in a
village Mehatpur, Punjab. His father, S. Piara Singh Jabal served
the northern Railway in India. He received an appreciation award for
his services rendered during Indo-Pak war in 1965.
S. Surindar Singh
Jabal did his Matriculation from village Khalsa school in 1963. He
completed three years Diploma in Electrical Engineering from
Ramgarhia Polytechnic, Phagwara in 1966. During his college days he
was good in athletics and in 1965/66 session he was declared an
outstanding Athlete of the year.
During eighth Inter-Polytechnic Athletics meet in
Ludhiana his participation in relay races was eulogized in the
yearly Ramgarhia Polytechnic Phagwara magazine “Vishwakirti”;
Winning relay races with his injuries that led to capturing Relay
Races & Athletics trophies and over all Sports Trophy- which
Ramgarhia Polytechnic was successfully retaining for the five
successive years.
After getting
a Diploma in electrical, He worked in Northern Railways to get
practical experience in the field of electrical installations for
few years. In 1967, he was engaged to a Canadian citizen girl. He
reached Canada and married to Sdn. Gurminder Kaur Jheeta on 8th
March 1969
In Canada he did
various kinds of jobs to fulfill his daily needs. In 1970 he got a
job of his choice as an Electrician. In 1975 he managed to cross
various hurdles passing Contractors Class A license. He became a
member of the union IBEW Local 213 in 1975 and retired in 2012. He
worked as a Journeyman Electrician for various electrical
contractors. His last big job before retiring was the construction
of Waterfront Sky Train Station on Canada line where he was a
Foreman for Elgar Electric and he proudly displays a photo album of
the completed project.

Upon arriving in
Vancouver,
Canada
he observed that there were very few Ramgarhia families. The
families wanted to co-ordinate each other and spread their
brotherhood. They started to organise religious and social
gatherings and planned to form an organization .The members of the
same liking named the organisation as a "Canadian Ramgarhia
Society".
After lot of discussions, they constituted rules
and regulations of "Canadian Ramgarhia Society" in 1972. Jabal has
been the founder member of the society. He served the Society as an
executive committee member in 1973, 1993 and 1994. He served as
secretary in 1974, 1975, 1979, 1980 and president of the society in
1982, 1983 and 1984. Jabal also served as trustee, election
committee chairman and Public Relations from 2001 to 2014. Now, he
is the most trusted president from 2014 onward. |

Jabal also served
on Committees, Sub-Committees & Director in various associations on
numerous occasions namely Five River Community Service Society, Five
Rivers Management Services Society, Federation of Sikh Societies of
Canada, Sikh Sewak Society of
Canada,
and World Sikh Organisation of Canada. Akali Dal of Canada,
Vancouver
Refugee Council, Khalsa Diwan Society, Vancouver, International
Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and many more Social, political
and religious societies and association. He served on Canadian Sikhs
Centennial Celebrations Steering Committee – October 1997 (British Columbia,
CANADA) and on Steering Committee for Khalsa Tercentenary
Celebrations of North America – April 1999 (British Columbia,
CANADA).

He is a good poet; He writes and recites poems
on big social and religious Gatherings. He
started writing at the young age. His poems
and articles on various social and religious
issues published in Punjabi vernaculars and
weekly newspapers. His poem on Maharaja Jassa
Singh Ramgarhia was published and well
appreciated. He also worked as a
director of Punjabi tribune weekly newspaper
in 1995 and Editor of Sikh Sewak (monthly)
The couple is blessed with two intelligent
sons. |
