S. Kirpal Singh Dhinjal

 

       "S Kirpal Singh Dhinjal was born April 15, 1947 in a small village in Punjab, India named Boparai district, Ludhiana.  He was born to Sdn. Punjab Kaur and S. Bachan Singh Dhinjal.  The family was well known for their craftsmanship in the woodworking in the village, and his father began his journey to Nairobi, Kenya in 1952 to search for a better quality of life for his family.  
        S Bachan Singh later found an opportunity to migrate to Scotland, UK in 1959 and settled in Glasgow along with his eldest son S.Amar Singh.  In 1963, Bachan Singh moved his family to Glasgow, including his 3 younger sons and wife, Sdn. Punjab Kaur.  They found employment in the shipyard where they all found skilled work.

               S Kirpal Singh worked in Scotland  along with his elder 2 brothers and got his training in wood working from his father.  In 1967 the elder brothers S. Amar Singh and S. Karam Singh found a golden opportunity to migrate to Vancouver, BC and began their journey.  S.Kirpal Singh now married to Smt. Harbans Kaur Ghataura , followed his brothers in 1968 to Vancouver.   The three Dhinjal brothers now united in Canada began their construction business. They were one of the very first Punjabi families to be involved in residential construction and became  very well known to the small amount of Punjabi families living in Vancouver at the time. 

      Kirpal’s sister, Ranjeet Kaur Hoonjan along with her husband and five boys moved to Vancouver in 1973 from Scotland, and the youngest brother Lal Singh and family joined them in 1975.   In 1981 his father S.Bachan Singh and mother Sdn.Punjab Kaur Dhinjal retired and moved to Vancouver to join the 4 sons and 1 daughter and grandchildren along with several other extended family members who the family had helped migrate to Vancouver for a better life.  S. Bachan Singh devoted all his retirement years  doing seva to the Nanaksar gurdwara in Richmond whom all knew him as “Bai ji”.
       
  In 1969 S.Kirpal Singh and Smt.Harbans Kaur gave birth to their eldest son Parm and in 1973 had given birth to their second son, Sandy.

    
      In in 1976, S.Kirpal Singh joined the Canadian Ramgarhia Society and in 1981 he served a one year term as an assistant secretary.  In 2005-2006 he also served as a director advisory  member.  He served as a trustee from 2007-2010 and again 2012-2013.  He played an integral role in the construction of the Brookside Gurdwara in the construction and coordination.
       Currently Kirpal Singh runs Cornwall Construction Ltd, building luxury homes in the Richmond area  with his eldest son Parm who is also a real estate agent.  His younger son, Sandy is involved in home  inspections.  Kirpal & Harbans have 3 grandsons, and devout all their spare time to the
Brookside  gurdwara.
